The Gators look to continue their magical run in the tournament against eight seeded Wisconsin this Friday. With both Villanova and Duke losing in the Round of 32, the door is wide open for the Gators to win the East Region of the NCAA Tournament.
The Gators limped into the Tournament losing three of their last four games. Albeit to Kentucky and twice against a good Vanderbilt team. The loss of center John Egbunu has without a doubt hurt the Gators in this stretch but that’s not the only reason they are limping into the postseason.
Poor play from guard Kasey Hill and sixth man of the year Canyon Barry has hurt the Gators, as well as, inconsistency from Devin Robinson.
But something has changed in this Gator team since starting the tournament with a 15 point win over East Tennessee State. The Gator team has done a complete 180 and players who were once hindering their team, are shining.
We can start with the play of Devin Robinson and Justin Leon. Robinson has been playing lights out ball on both ends of the court and Leon had his best game of his career against Virginia. Kasey Hill has also played up to his abilities and has been limiting the amount of turnovers in this run. But I must say the biggest addition to the team has got to be Freshman Gorjok Gak.
With the Gators down Center John Egbunu, they have been turning often to Schulyer Rimmer off the bench, with little results. Gak has been providing the Gators great minutes off the bench in the tournament, in relief of Kevarrius Hayes who has been playing at a high level.
With their star players finally playing up to their potential, the Gators will be looking to advance to the Elite Eight round for the ninth time in program history and fifth time in the last seven years.
Tip off will be 9:59pm at Madison Square Garden and the winner will go on to play the winner of (3) Baylor vs. (7) South Carolina in the Elite Eight.
