The Florida Gators offered four star in-state offensive lineman John Campbell of Dr. Phillps High School last week. Today, we sat down with the high school standout to get a feel for who Campbell is as a player and how his recruitment process is going.

Growing up Campbell started off playing basketball before making the switch to football. But he has wasted little time in perfecting his craft in football. The majority of defenders that went up against Campbell ended up on their backs.

As of right now, Campbell has 31 colleges that have offered him, one of which is the Gators.

“I think I got about 31 offers right now,” Campbell said. “But I am still open to offers, I would like to have offers from Alabama, Ohio St., FSU and Clemson for sure.”

Campbell enjoys playing football but also likes competing at all the different camps that they have.

“I have a lot of fun at the camps,” Campbell said. “I love to travel and see new places, plus I collect stuff like key chains from each place I go.”

Campbell is an extremely athletic offensive lineman with quick feet. The aggressiveness he plays with at the tackle position is why all the schools want him. When you watch his tape his feet and aggressiveness really stands out.

Campbell did tell us a few things that he looks for when trying to select the right school for him.

“I am really looking for a school with that family feel and with coaches who can help me grow,” Campbell said. “I have to like the schools environment and I want to go to a school that has a good Sports Medicine program.”

Campbell enjoyed his time at the University of Florida for Jr. day and spoke highly of newly acquired Offensive Line Coach Davis.

“I had a great time and knew a lot of people there,” Campbell said.”I really liked Coach Mac and Coach Davis brings a lot of energy, he is great.”

Campbell told us that his best high school memory so far was making it to the states. Nick Smith, who just recently signed with the Gators, was a teammate of Campbell’s at Dr. Phillps High School.

“Nick is like a brother to me, so it helps that he is at the University of Florida,” Campbell said.

Everyone we spoke to had nothing but positive things to say about Campbell. His tape speaks for itself and we want to thank Campbell for taking the time to sit down with us. We wish him the best of luck.
