The Gators received high honors from the Southeastern Conference league awards for their amazing season.
Some of the highlights were Gators coach Mike White, was named the 2017 SEC Coach of the Year, Gators Guard Canyon Barry, was named 2017 SEC Sixth Man of the Year, Guard KeVaughn Allen was named First Team ALL-SEC, and Guard Kasey Hill grabbed second team honors and SEC All-Defensive team honors.
The addition of Canyon Barry really helped the Gators get to elite status this season. Barry was second on the team in scoring with 12.5 points per game. Barry’s role off the bench was critical to the Gators this season and he handled it with class. Barry shot 87.8 percent from the line with his famous underhanded throw, including 32 makes in a row, which is good for the record.
Barry becomes the first Sixth Man since former Gators Dorian Finney-Smith did it in 2013-2014.
The Gators leading scorer, KeVaughn Allen, has shot an astounding 40 percent from the three point line and 87 percent from the charity stripe. Allen leads the Gators in scoring with 13.9 points per game and has been a critical player for the Gators throughout the season.
Kasey Hill is shooting 41 percent from the field (Career High) and is leading the team in assists per game with 4.6. But what’s probably best about Hill’s game is his aggressive defense. Hill’s contributions to the Gators will be missed.
Congratulations to all of our Gators on their outstanding season so far. We wish them the best of luck in the tournaments!
