We sat down with another top Gator target and class of 2020 star recruit Jermaine Burton, to talk about his recruitment process and his plans moving forward. Burton is 5’11 180 lb Wide Receiver of powerhouse Hapeville Charter Academy in Atlanta, GA.
Burton’s film, even as a freshman, shows you why the Gators are already interested in his services. Burton does a good job a winning at the line of scrimmage either slapping defenders hands away or just gliding off the line and accelerating quickly past them. Burton does a good job at using his body to shield away defenders and winning those contested 1-on-1 balls. Burton still has plenty of time to perfect his craft but he is leaps above a lot of other freshman receivers.
Burton’s path the football started later than a lot of other people we talk with.
“I didn’t start playing football until like 7th grade,” Burton said. “My basketball coach wanted me to play so I tried it out and ended up falling in love with it.”
As it stands today, Burton has captured the attention of two elite SEC schools, Florida and Auburn.
“Right now I have two offers, Florida and Auburn,” Burton said. “But I am still wanting to receive more offers and I believe they will come soon.”
Burton would like to attend a College where the coach has established good players and has a lot of energy.
“I want to play at a college with a lot of talent around me,” Burton said. “I also want the coach to have a lot of energy because I can feed off that energy and work harder.”
I asked Burton what his favorite memory was in his very short High School career and it was his first career catch.
“My best memory so far has got to be my first catch in high school football,” Burton said. “It was an 80 yard catch, so I was pumped when it happened and still remember it.”
However, it would have made it a little better had the catch went for a touchdown.
We want to thank Burton for allowing us to sit down with him. We wish him the best in the recruiting process and will definitely be hearing from him again, I am sure!
