Florida’s Quarterback situation just got a little more interesting with the news today that QB Luke Del Rio will miss Spring football camp due to having surgery on his shoulder. The news comes after an injury plagued first year with the Florida Gators.
After starting off hot, Del Rio was sidelined for a couple games after taking a shot to the back of the leg, resulting in a sprained MCL in his knee. Del Rio ultimately was held out of additional games due to injuring his shoulder.
The Gators went 5-1 with Del Rio at the helm.
The Gators will look to their Red Shirt freshman Quarterbacks Feleipe Franks and Kyle Trask to take the bulk of the load in Spring camp. With the young Red Shirt freshman getting a good amount of the reps this Spring, there is a good chance Florida may start one of them next season.
We believe that Feleipe Franks has the edge as of now to win the starting job out of camp if Coach Mac decides to replace Del Rio. Franks was a four star recruit who flipped from LSU to the Gators last year and shows promise at the position.
But don’t rule out the other Gators Quarterbacks either. They are bringing in QB Jake Allen from Florida powerhouse St. Thomas Aquinas High School and letting ATH Kadarius Toney give Quarterback a shot as well.
It will be interesting to see how it all shakes out, we will keep you posted on the status of Del Rio and the Gators Quarterback position.
