With each new recruiting year, you have a new story about how a not so highly sought after player, turns in a big Senior season, and in turn gets the attention of the bigger Universities.
That’s a similar story to that of Linebacker Nick Smith of Dr.Phillps High school.
Smith is currently committed to play football at N.C State, however, the Gators and a few other Universities are trying to flip his commitment before National Signing Day, February 1st.
The Gators may have came late to the party, officially offering Smith in mid-December but that isn’t stopping the Gators from pursuing Smith hard in the closing days before National Signing Day.
Smith says that he has been in contact with newly promoted Defensive Coordinator, Randy Shannon. Smith likes the fact that Shannon is now the Defensive Coordinator for the Gators and that could help sway his decision to become a Gator.
Shannon and the Gators will travel to Orlando on Thursday to try to persuade Smith to take a official visit to the Swamp before National Signing Day.
Smith will be taking official visits to Michigan St. and Louisville later this month but said that either LSU or Florida will get his last official visit on January 27th.
Everything we gathered points to the Gators having a very good shot at flipping Smith from N.C State to Florida. Smith has connections to the Gators, it’s close to home and he has started building a relationship with Linebacker guru Randy Shannon.
